Achievable steps for a healthy planet

PRESS RELEASE
March 24, 2024

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA –  Project KELP announced today the launch of KELP Sustainable Fund (KSFund) — that will accelerate the growth and initiatives from Project KELP. “Nature, people, and all living things are interconnected. We need to do everything we can to save our only home: Planet Earth.” said Milian Chen, Project KELP’s founder and president. “This seed fund (KSFund) will help Project KELP to grow and bring more sustainable resources, information, workshops, and events about action we can all take everyday!”

The seed fund was made possible with the generous support from friends and family of the founder. Thank you!

Project KELP will continue to raise funding through the following fundraising campaigns:

  • Online Sustainable Library (Book recommendations): Nature, environment, and sustainability related books through local, online, and digital stores.
  • Sustainable Product Guide: Environmentally friendly products from innovative companies in the sustainability field.
  • Donations! (Including sponsorships)

All proceeds through these channels will be used for promoting and supporting the projects by Project KELP.

In addition to the KELP Sustainable Fund, Project KELP is also pleased to announce the grants received by its school project: UHill Sustainable Everyday Club (UHill SEC) also founded by Milian Chen. The VSB Sustainability Grant and VSB Leadership Fund were approved by the Vancouver School Board (VSB) in Vancouver, BC, Canada to support the initiatives that UHill SEC will implement this year.

As the founder and club president of UHill SEC, Milian will use the funding from VSB to bring sustainable resources to University Hill Secondary School, šxʷwəq̓ʷəθət Crosstown Elementary, and some other schools in the Vancouver School District.

“Education is extremely important in uniting everyone to work together to understand and help restore and improve the health of the planet. Schools are the best place to start!” said Milian Chen.

One of the projects is to create and launch a Sustainable Corner within school libraries. This pilot project will combine current library collections in nature, environment, society, and sustainability along with new book purchases made possible through the VSB Leadership Fund.

Additional participating schools’ information will be announced shortly.
